Tunisia is famous for its grand doors, carrying many religious symbols of Judaism, Christianity, Islam and others. This work started from a talk I had with a taxi driver, close to one of the big doors of La Goulette, he said that in the near future, these doors will cease to exist, someone will probably burn them.
I made a copy from one of this doors, replacing the nails with blue safety matches. In front of the original door I shot a short video of 2 musicians, Achref Chargui on the oud and Mohamed Wassef Jridi on the qanun. The video started at sunset, ending in complete darkness, playing the tune of ‘bab darek’, an old Tunisian song.
The second photo was shot by Ivo Faber. The project was done and exhibited in KIT Dusseldorf.
